Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) triphenylbenzene ligand
for the synthesis of COFs applied in sensors, CO2 adsorption and photocatalytic hydrogen evolution
1,3,5-Tris(4-formylphenyl)benzene (CAS number 118688-53-2) is a ligands with a triphenylbenzene core functionalised with three aldehyde groups. 1,3,5-Tris(4-formylphenyl)benzene readily reacts with amine derivatives for imine linkage COFs that are used for CO2 capture. One example of such a COF is benzothiazole COF, which is prepared using this method. This COF exhibits a surface area of 328 m2/g with CO2 adsorption of 7.8 wt% at 273 K/bar. It also demonstrates excellent thermal stability up to 450 °C under a N2 atmosphere.
A two-dimensional semiconducting COF (2D COF) can be synthesised from 1,3,5-tris(4-formylphenyl)benzene and benzyl cyanide derivatives through Knoevenagel condensation. The resulting 2D COF has been studied for H2 evolution with a production rate of 2.9 μmol/h.
