How to Clean Your Analytical Balance and Microbalance
The instructions in the video and below describe how to correctly clean your laboratory analytical balance and microbalance. Following this method will prolong the working life of your laboratory balance and keep it weighing as accurately as possible.

- If you spill reagents within your laboratory balance you should immediately clean it.
- Start by gently brushing away the spilt reagent from the inside of the balance using a soft brush.
- Use a tissue or lint-free cloth to wipe away excess residue.
- A cloth dampened with water, mild soap or detergent may be used. No liquids can enter the unit.
- Remove the sample from the microbalance.
- Remove the weighing pan and guard.
- There may be other reagents hidden within the microbalance.
- Again using a soft brush or lint-free cloth remove the spilt reagent.
- Follow this with cleaning with a tissue, dampened with water, mild soap or detergent if necessary.
- Dry the balance completely using a tissue before reassembling.
