2-Bromo-6-fluorobenzaldehyde (CAS number 360575-28-6) is a benzaldehyde substituted with a bromine and a fluorine at the ortho-positions. A 1H and 19F NMR probe, fluoro-2-formyphenyl boronic acid is synthesized from 2-bromo-6-fluorobenzaldehyde. The NMR probe can determine the enantiopurity of sulfinamides that are widely used as chiral auxiliaries for asymmetric synthesis. 2-Bromo-6-fluorobenzaldehyde is used to synthesize bicyclic heterocycles such as indazoles, through a reaction of 2-bromo-6-fluorobenzaldehyde, primary amines and sodium azide, catalysed by copper(II) oxide.
2-Bromo-6-fluorobenzaldehyde can assist self-assembly of macromolecules to fabricate nanostructures. A semiconducting thienisoindigo based nanowire is assembled with 2-bromobenzaldehyde via halogen and chalcogen bonding, showing hole mobility of 6.39×10−4 cm2/Vs.
