6-Fluoronicotinic acid (CAS number 403-45-2), also recognized as niacin, is a fluorinated nicotinic acid. 6-Fluoronicotinic acid is a derivative of pyridine, with a carboxylic acid at 3-position and a fluorine at 6-position. Nicotinic acid is an important food supplement and used to treat pellagra, a vitamin B3 deficiency disease. 6-Fluoronicotinic acid is applied as a molecular scaffold to synthesize tracers for positron emission tomography, for visualizing and measuring changes in metabolic processes.
Being bioactive, 6-fluoronicotinic acid is commonly used as a building block for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). A derivative of quinoline-8-yl-nicotinamide synthesised from 6-fluoronicotinic acid is investigated for pancreatic cancer treatment.
