Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) powder, CAS number 10043-11-5, is also referred to as “white graphene” with a layered honeycomb structure based on sp2 covalent bonds.
Hexagonal boron nitride is both considered as an insulator and a semiconductor. As an insulator, it is widely used as a sub-layer material for any other 2D material in electronic devices. As a semiconductor, it has been confirmed that bulk h-BN has an indirect bandgap of 5.955 eV.
High purity (>99.7%) hexagonal boron nitride powders suitable for recrystallization and exfoliation are available in nano and micro sizes. Hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets (h-BNNs) can be accessed by the exfoliation of bulk h-BN powder. Some example methods include sonication or ball milling in the presence of stabilising molecules such as poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate), sodium perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylate or saccharides.
