(R)-(−)-3-Fluoropyrrolidine hydrochloride (CAS number 136725-55-8) is a fluorinated chiral pyrrolidine salt, with a fluorine substituent on the R configured chiral carbon centre. Ionic liquids based on (R)-(−)-3-fluoropyrrolidine hydrochloride can be synthesized by alkylation to the secondary amine. It is then followed by a quarterisation reaction of the amine with N-methyl bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide. The ionic liquids show high oxidation stability (> 5.5 V vs Li+/Li) and good high voltage cyclability up to 4.7 V.
A perovskite switching metal complex of CdCl2 (cadmium chloride) and methylated (R)-(−)-3-Fluoropyrrolidine has exhibited dual-phase transitions of switchable dielectric constants at 370 and 460 K. Enantiomorphic perovskite ferroelectrics, (R)-(−)-3-fluoropyrrolidium MnBr3 and (S)-(+)-3-fluoropyrrolidium MnBr3 display circular polarized luminescence.
