Our Story
The Beginning
Ossila was founded by three scientists from the University of Sheffield. Frustrated by the difficulty in sourcing essential research tools for fabricating and testing next-generation solar cells, they established Ossila to address this barrier and streamline the research process.
Enabling Science
Driven by this major barrier to efficient research, Ossila aimed to develop high-performance substrates, materials, and equipment. Our goal was to establish accessible, standardized prototyping platforms capable of delivering world-class results. With decades of academic and industrial experience in developing organic and thin-film LEDs, photovoltaics, and FETs, Ossila initially focused on products for organic electronics. Today, we are enabling science in broader markets within materials science and beyond.
Founded in Sheffield in 2009 to streamline research processes
Supplying to world-leading institutions across 90+ countries
Experts in organic electronics providing free scientific resources
Most recently awarded the King's Award for Enterprise (2024)
Our Online Success
Competing with large companies, we moved away from sales pitches and catalogues, instead choosing to operate entirely through our e-commerce platform. Giving the research community access to simple and transparent pricing has allowed us to thrive against industry giants and build a supportive customer base who trust our brand.
An Award Winning Brand
By 2017, our dedication to excellence earned Ossila its first award for innovation from the Institute of Physics. The following year, we received a Queen's Award for Enterprise for our international trade success. Our continued dedication to global scientific collaboration earned us a second award this year, the King's Award for Enterprise.
International Collaboration
Following the UK's withdrawal from the EU, we adapted to the new dynamic of UK-EU trade relations by solidifying our commitment to EU customers. In 2021, we set up an EU subsidiary in Leiden, Netherlands to guarantee hassle-free delivery to EU customers without import duties or fees. Our global reach has continued to grow and we now serve customers in over 90 countries.
I greatly appreciate your website for giving such a clear and detailed explanation of spin coating theory. I am a newbie in spin coating application and your explanation is the best I have found so far. Great job!

Making Science Accessible
Since our first partnership with the University of Sheffield, we have stayed connected to our academic roots. Our team of physicists, engineers, and chemists has created an extensive collection of free scientific resources, including theory guides, application notes, and product support. We have also been a consistent employer of students since 2009 and are now proud to sponsor conference attendance and support research projects.
Supporting Science
In 2023, we launched our scientific outreach support program in which we assist scientific outreach projects introduce students to the wonder of science and inspire them to pursue further studies and careers in science-related fields. Then in 2024, we introduced three graduation awards at the University of Sheffield, University of Aberdeen, and University of Edinburgh. Through this program, we are committed to fostering a culture of innovation and excellence by providing support to graduating students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and a dedication to advancing scientific knowledge.
