NDI-2EH-2THBr is a naphthalene diimide (NDI) derivative with two branched ethylhexyl solubilizing alkyl chains and two 2-bromothienyl groups attached to the electron deficient NDI core to extend its conjugation. The naphthalene diimide core is rigid and the thiophenes attached give the molecule a degree of flexibility when it is embedded into the backbone of a polymer. The bromide function groups enable NDI-2EH-2THBr a versatile monomer for further reactions such as Stille or Suzuki coupling reactions to build more complex structures.

A PCE of 18.4% was achieved for a single-junction binary device based on PM6:BTP-eC9 as the active layer and SME1 as cathode interlayer.
